It was the first time that I was on board a plane alone and it had to be a 14-hour one. I'm just glad I survived lugging my 4 baggage around and making it to the apartment that I booked alive. All's well and the next day I started my tiny little adventure in the heart of London, which became one of my favourite cities of all time.
London just has this thing about it - it's so bustling but quaint at the same time. The best part: everyone speaks English and you have no trouble communicating at all! Everyone would prolly hype about Oxford Circus and all it's luxurious grand boutique stores, but I'm more attracted to the antiques and old streets of Shoreditch and Camden. Countdown at Westminster Abbey was a beautiful sight with the Big Ben on the backdrop of the magnificent fireworks that lit up the entire sky, but it was a little too monotonous than what I have expected.
Although the weather was being quite the bitch, I still enjoyed the city and everything that it has to offer. It also made me realise that I was more independent that I thought, exploring the city alone with nothing but my camera and just being amazed by the sights that stared so beautifully back at me. It doesn't get better than to spend time with one of the closest friends while taking time out to meet up with others who were in town at that time too.
Besides, the city also has an ability to draw me back time and time again despite it's insane cost of living. Everything is so expensive there but if you're Singaporean enough, there are still a few deals that will make you enjoy it at a reasonable price. Burger & Lobster was more than worth the money although it meant queuing for an hour, Matilda the musical will only cost you 8 pounds if you are up for over 2 hours of waiting out in the cold and Brick Lane Begial's Bake serves quality pastries in pence!
At the top of every tourist's list: SIGHTSEEING
St. James park that has gotta be one of the best parks around
Tower Bridge that's so much more appealing than the London Bridge
London Eye ~
Winter Wonderland!
And that made me relive my childhood moments of fun rides and token games
Knightsbridge's Harrod's
BRB, heading for Hogwarts for a while at Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross
And my favourite part of London: Bricklane/Shoreditch
Then it's on to visit their various vintage and food market. SG needs markets like this!
Camden Lock Market's traffic regulator (And regular, I've seen him so many times!)
And on the way to Borough Market, I saw the archetype behind Bondue Week's "Before I Graduate..." Gosh, it's been a year, how time flies
Borough Market has one of the freshest foods around.
And we ate. And ate. And continued eating......
America's Shake Shack in London
The legendary Burger & Lobster. This totally brought me to heaven for a bit. Worth every penny!
Here's us getting a little too excited ^^
Lola's cupcake, but there's a better cupcake. Look below!
Ottolenghi: Said to be London's best pastry shop
BESTEST CUPCAKE EVER: Hummingbird bakery. Can I have some now?
And of course, they have pretty cool drinks too
Plus some pretty decent Asian food. Man I miss all my hawker dishes now
Let it roll ~
3 hours of queuing in the cold at 6am paid off! 8 pound Matilda tickets ~
New Year's Eve countdown at Westminster Abbey with the Big Ben
Now, maybe you'll know why I'll be heading back for the third time a week's time? :)
